Get Inspiration

If you’re looking for some inspiration, start with The Great Gatsby – either the book or the movie. Have your guests pick out some characters from this classic story, or frankly, any of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novels, and discuss ideas. His collection of works in general will help you get lost in the era of the 20s and paint the era perfectly.

One of the reasons the roaring 20s were known for their parties is the history of Prohibition. It's one of the most American stories in America. Something about banning alcohol turned everyone back into sneaky teenagers again.

When hosting your own theme party, you can channel that rebellious energy by transforming an AirBNB event venue into a 1920s speakeasy. Check out these decorations or get crafty and make some of your own. A color scheme with plenty of black, green and gold will do the trick. Or, the color of money, as I call it.

Some dim lighting, crystal chandeliers and props made out of old alcohol containers will really set the mood. For an added touch, take a long piece of twine, tie beer bottles together and submerge them in a cooler – like people would have done in a natural body of water when they were hiding it! Serving other drinks out of crates would also work.
